How's it going? I'm allright, the last 5 days were really good. Okay, I'm a bit annoyed because I have to write my blog for 5 days now and I wonder how I will summarise the South Island Tour in November which goes for nearly three weeks :p.
I couldn't upload photos yet but I think I will just pop into an Internet-Cafe or Starbucks to use the internet and upload some pictures, maybe even tomorrow.
The weather was very rainy the last days, Heather says the last winter that was as wet as the one this year was somewhere in the 90's.
Just a quick edit before I start talking about my week: Somebody told me that I didn't write about my last school performance (9 days ago), that's right. It was ok, but due to the fact that Alex and I couldn't perform our double act I had a very short time to plan something new and I would have preferred to perform the double act.
So here's what I did on Wednesday:
On Wednesday the first thing I did in the morning was to sent Loryanna a 'Happy Birthday!'-Text because it was her birthday (obviously xD ).
After that I went to Melville Primary School again, I already was there on Tuesday.
I met Alex there and we started going round through every class to perform 20-25 Minutes of magic in there.
All in all we went to 11 classes and the kids as well as the teachers loved it. I'll probably go to another Primary School and to an Intermediate School soon, maybe Alex will join me again.
Afterwards we just chilled out at home.
In the evening I went to Dancing again, but this time only to one class because I was really exalted by the magic thing.
I congratulated Loryanna again, we danced our class and she gave me the details about her party on Friday.
It would be a costume-party with the theme 'childhood-fantasy', that's cool so far. The only thing was: How was I supposed to organise a custom fitting to my childhood-fantasy in 2 days?! What was my childhood-fantasy, by the way :D?
Fortunately Jim came up with the idea to go as a biker, since he is a biker and could give me the suiting clothes. Good idea.
Thursday:
On Thursday was Heather's Birthday. I bought her a little book with 'Stuff every women should know' , I hope she likes it ;D.
I think it was on Thursday that I packed my saxophone to sent it back to the seller, but it might have been Friday as well. I'm going to sent it back tomorrow.
In the afternoon I went into town to get some things I'd need to build a little machine for my magic.
In the evening Alex and his wife Laura came along to celebrate Heather's Birthday with us and we had dinner.
When everyone went to bed I started building my magic machine and I didn't stop to do so until 2 in the morning.
It was just sooo annoying...either the glue doesn't stick or it sticks too much, then the wood is sawed off to small or to big, the screws don't fit...I got pretty much frustrated.
So at 2 in the morning (nothing worked -.-) I went to bed.
Friday:
Friday morning I went to the Rotary-meeting. That's right, I got up early in the morning to go to Rotary allthough I have holidays :p.
They told me that I will have to hold a longer speech at Rotary in three weeks, so I gotta prepare for that.
Afterwards Jim dropped me in town so that I could get some more things to finish my magic-machine. What did I find out? I can't buy clear varnish, I can't buy a knife for magic and I can't buy most paint-things since I'm under 18 -.- ... so I spent a few hours until I found a shop that would sell me the paint and clear varnish I needed.
Afterwards I organised to get hold of a soldering iron and some solder.
I went home and started to rebuild the magic-machine, this time it went way better. When I was half way through Alex joined me and gave me a hand with building the machine. In the end we succeeded, it was not perfect but okay for the first try.
At 8:30 I was supposed to be at Loryanna's place, but since I estimated the time wrong I arrived at 9. At least I had a present (a ballerina-voodoo-watchover-doll) and a fortune-teller Birthday-Card, which said something like:
"You will live a wonderfull live, luck will always be on your side and love will follow you always...oh, hold on, it's you...you will wander through the woods,... yes you will wander naked through the woods...with cider....cider as your only friend!"
I quite liked that text (everybody who thinks that's not funny at all might be right, but...you know :D)xD.
I got to know a lot of people at her party (when I arrived I knew only Loryanna herself). We did a bit of dancing, I performed magic (eerie and funny) and we played the 'Limbo :p. I got kicked out at the second round, together with some other tall guys. You know what? There was one girl that could walk upright under the stick in the round we got kicked out because she was half our size!
That's unfair :P!
At 12 Jim and Heather picked me up, all in all it was a great party :). I'm happy Loryanna invited me :).
Saturday:
Yesterday morning I wanted to go busking but it was way to windy. So I just went into a little cosy shop where I met another busker, Jona. He was there because he plays some Role-Play-Games.
We talked for a while and he invited me on a games-evening. He also gave me some advice on where to try busking.
Since I want to get more gigs to perform at I started to walk into different cafes and bars and Pubs (some of those Jona recomended to me) and offered them to work for them for one or more nights (as a magician :D. ).
Some of them took up my cotact-details, some gave me their contact details...the best thing happened to me in an Irish Pub.
The owner offered to me to perform at a Blues Night at the 6th of October, it's going to be an 'Open-Mic'-Evening, which means that everybody who feels like it just can walk up on stage and usually sing.
At the 14th of October I will perform at the same Pub at an Accoustic-Night, and at both evenings the owner will announce that we're looking at setting up a magic-night for me. So if everything goes well after that we'll set up an evening at which I will perform alone on stage betweeen 60 and 120 minutes :)!
In the evening I was hired to perform at a birthday-party of one of Jim's friends, Rachel. I met her husband Dan before when I performed for the Mormon-Church last Saturday.
Before I would perform their 5-year-old sun Azlan would perform a magic-effect, he did quite well ;D.
I offered to pop up some day to work out some more magic with him.
Afterwards I walked home and just answered some mail, talked to Hamish, chilled out.
I also wrote heaps of mails to different organisations/gigs to offer them to perform for them. We'll see what they say.
Sunday:
Today I got up at 9:30 and we went to church at 10.
Church was okay, some man preached for us and he did a good job.
Next week Isaac is going to preach, but unfortunately I won't be able to hear him because I'll be up in Taupo ( Toe-Poo ;D ) for a Rotary-Orientation-weekend. I'll need to prepare some things for that.
Afterwards Heather, Jim, Hamish and I went to some Wine-Garden-Restaurant to celebrate Heather's birthday again since Hamish couldn't join us on Thursday. We had lunch there as well and it was really really delicious.
I even tried the lamb-meat, but again - I just don't like meat, so I didn't eat any more of it.
In the evening I went to the magic-circle. It was pretty cool. Alista, the new president (not the dutch ex-president) gave me some advice on juggling and since the theme for this evening was 'Mentalism, Hypnotism and Telepathy' I performed and demonstrated several effects and experiments. They seemed to be impressed and told me they liked it very much, which is good ;)!
Because I went to the magic-circle today I didn't go to the evening-church. I would have really liked to go there, but today this had priority.
Our ex-president (dutch) again gave me a bunch of old magic-maganzines, I'll read through them as soon as I have time for that.
In November there will be a famous magician here and we'll get free tickets provided by the circle, that's very very cool :).
I think that's it for today, I'll sleep soon. Soo, have a good time ;)!
See ya!
Yours,
Timon.
